About this site, and how to get help

The short version: this site describes a counseling practice. Reading it does not make you a client, and it is not a place to get help in a crisis. If you are in danger right now, the numbers are at the bottom of this page and you should use them instead of reading on.

If you need help right now

Call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, in the United States, any hour of any day.

Call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room, if you or somebody else is in immediate danger.

Text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line if talking on the phone is not possible.

Nobody monitors this website, this email address, or any form on it for emergencies. Messages may not be read for a day or more. Please do not use them to reach out when the answer cannot wait.

What this site is

A description of Bob Manthy's executive counseling practice: who Bob is, what the work looks like, what it costs, and how to book an initial conversation.

What this site is not

It is not therapy, and it is not clinical advice. Anything written here is general information, offered to help you decide whether this kind of work is worth pursuing. It is not tailored to you, because nobody here knows your situation.

Reading this site does not make you a client. A counseling relationship begins when you and Bob agree it does, in a real conversation, with the paperwork and consent that go with it. Not before.

Sending a message does not make you a client either. An email or a contact form is a request for a conversation. Please do not send clinical details, a history, or anything you would want protected before that relationship exists, because the ordinary confidentiality protections of therapy do not yet apply to it.

Licensure and where the work can happen

Bob is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Counseling licenses are granted state by state, and a counselor may only work with clients who are physically located in a state where they are licensed. If you are outside that state, Bob may not be able to work with you, whatever either of you would prefer. Ask before you plan around it, and if the answer is no he will help you find somebody who can.

Executive coaching is a different thing from counseling, and where the work is coaching rather than therapy, that will be named plainly rather than blurred.

Confidentiality

What clients say in session is confidential, with the specific exceptions that the law requires: risk of serious harm to self or others, suspected abuse of a child or a vulnerable adult, and a valid court order. Those exceptions are explained in full at the start of the work rather than buried in a document nobody reads.

This website is a separate matter. Email and web forms are not secure channels, and nothing sent through them should be treated as confidential clinical communication.

Getting hold of the practice

Write to [email protected] for scheduling and general questions. For anything urgent, use the crisis numbers at the top of this page instead.
